Plan outlay for Railways kept at Rs 101.20 billion

The plan outlay for Railways for 2002-03 has been kept at Rs 101.20 billion, Railway Minister Nitish Kumar said.

Taking into account the outlay of Rs 22.10 billion on safety related works through the Special Railway Safety Fund, the total outlay comes to Rs 123.30 billion, he said presenting the Rail Budget for 2002-03.

This was Rs 14.73 billion higher than the revised estimates of last year.

He said for 2002--03, the total funds received from General Exchequer were Rs 58.40 billion, including Rs 13.50 billion as contribution towards the SRSF and Rs 4.50 billion from the Central Road Fund.

The corresponding figure for last year was Rs 57.38 billion, including Rs 8.98 billion received for the last mile projects, Rs 10 billion for the SRSF and Rs 3 billion from the Central Road Fund, he said.

The minister announced that in addition to the budgetary support, he proposed to provide Rs 26.30 billion for Plan expenditure through internal resource generation.

Although this was Rs 6.20 billion less than what was budgeted for last year, the positive feature was that the uncertainty in realisation of budgeted earnings was not there.
