Union Budget to be presented on February 28

The Budget session of Parliament will begin on February 25 and the Union Budget for 2002-03 will be presented in Lok Sabha on February 28, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan said on Tuesday.

Railway Budget for 2002-03 will be presented on February 26, Mahajan told reporters in New Delhi after a meeting of the Union Cabinet.

These dates were finalised by the Cabinet, he said.

Mahajan said the Economic Survey will be tabled in Parliament on February 27.

Both Houses will adjourn for nearly a month on March 22 to enable the Parliamentary Standing Committees on various ministries to analyse the Budget proposals.

The two Houses would resume their sittings on April 15 and continue till May 17, Mahajan added.

President K R Narayanan will address both Houses of Parliament on February 22, Mahajan said.

At the conclusion of Parliament's Winter Session last month, 36 bills were pending in Lok Sabha and 40 in Rajya Sabha.
