Role of FCI to be reviewed: Sinha
The role and functions of the Food Corporation of India will be reviewed after the report on the long-term grains policy is finalised, Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha said in New Delhi on Monday.
A review of the role of FCI had become essential following the announcement to decanalise exports of commodities in the 2002-03 Budget.
Putting procurement in the hands of the state governments in the last Budget had not led to much success, Sinha said while addressing the Confederation of Indian Industry on the Union Budget 2002-03.
He said agriculture was an area in which future reforms were entirely dependent on the states.
