Arjun serenades Manisha

Sukanya Verma

Arjun Rampal and Manisha Koirala in Moksha Close on the heels of Santosh Sivan's Asoka, comes the music of another ace cinematographer turned director Ashok Mehta's Moksha - Salvation.

Moksha, which was meant to be Arjun Rampal's launching pad, took its own sweet time in the making. As it turned out, Arjun debuted with Rajiv Rai's Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat.

Coming to the music, Moksha has been composed by Rajesh Roshan, (who may not have another Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai here), with Javed Akhtar providing the lyrics.

The album includes conversations between the lead protagonists Hrithika (Manisha Koirala) and Vikram (Arjun Rampal), before the beginning of each track. Great ploy to increase the curiosity value among the audience.

Manisha Koirala in Moksha Sukhwinder Singh and Kavita Krishnamurthy bounce into the loud music and heavy orchestra with Jaan leva. The use of too many musical instruments mars this track, making it sound discordant. Remarkably the remix version of Jaan leva is infused with tremendous life and jazz.

In a bid to mollify the effect of the earlier heavy duty number, comes in the peaceful and mellow Humko pyaar hai. Strictly relying on the vocals of Kamaal Khan and Sneha, this romantic duet, reflecting Rajesh Roshan's trademark style, doesn't go unnoticed.

Seep mein moti takes you in the golden era of 50s with its vintage style melody. The icing on the cake comes in form of Akhtar's beautiful philosophical poetry. This song has two versions: the first sung by the dependable Shaan and the other, by new talent Pamela, who exudes the confidence of a seasoned singer.

Manisha Koirala and Arjun Rampal in Moksha Time for a lullaby with Nani ma, again with two versions by Mahalaxmi and Dominque. What begins as ho-hum gets quite annoying after sometime. Fast forward please!

Use of fresh voices is a prominent feature in the music of Moksha, one observes. So in comes another fresher Madhushree asserting that Mohabbat zindagi hai. A fairly mediocre ditty that fails to create any ripples.

Bottom line: If you are looking for light, frothy music, go for Moksha.

Else, ignore it.
