In Baghban, Hema, as a mother was forgiving but the wife in her she refused to pardon her children for putting down her husband and their father.

As a grandmother, she was disciplined and compassionate. She made her point subtly but with effect.

In both her avatars, Hema was neither submissive nor aggressive. Even while going humiliation at the hands of her loved ones, dignity never deserted her.
