CHRONOLOGY: The Nagaland ceasefire

Early 1997: Rajesh Pilot meets Naga leaders in Bangkok.
May: Then prime minister H D Deve Gowda meets Th Muivah and Issac Chisi Swu in Davos.
July 26: Agreement for three-month ceasefire between NSCN-IM and Centre.
August 1: Ceasefire comes into effect.
December: Cease-Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) established.
January 1998: Swaraj Kaushal appointed chief negotiator by Centre. P P Srivastava is coordinator/chairman of CFMG.
May, June and July: Kaushal meets Th Muivah in Bangkok. Differences persist over Srivastava and jurisdiction of ceasefire.
July: Kaushal meets Muivah and Swu in Zurich.
August: Prime Minister A B Vajpayee meets NSCN leadership in Paris
January 1999: Centre replaces Srivastava with P D Shenoy, additional home secretary.
May 8: Muivah and Swu come to Nagaland after 33 years of self-imposed exile.
July 19: Swaraj Kaushal removed. Former home secretary K Padmanabhaiah now chief coordinator.
July 23, 24: Padmanabhaiah meets Muivah and Swu in Amesterdam.
November: Nagaland Chief Minister S C Jamir ambushed, allegedly by NSCN-IM cadres. Ceasefire Monitoring Cell closed down.
December: Padmanabhaiah meets Muivah and Swu in Bangkok.
January 2000: Muivah arrested in Thailand. Talks stalled.
