The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested Inderjit Singh Reyat, in connection with the bombing of Air-India flight 182 on June 23, 1985 and the intended bombing, in 1985, of Air-India flight 301.
At 06:30 on Wednesday, members of the Air-India Task Force went to Matsqui Institution, with a warrant for Reyat's arrest.
Reyat was at Matsqui, serving the final two days of a 10-year sentence for manslaughter and explosives charges, relating to a 1985 bombing at New Tokyo international airport in Narita, Japan, which killed two people.
Reyat is now charged with the following offences: a count each of conspiracy to commit murder of passengers and crew of Air-India flight 182 and 301; first degree murder of the 329 passengers and crew of Air-India flight 182; attempted murder of the passengers and crew of Air-India flight 301; conspiring to cause bombs to be placed on board various aircraft; and three counts of causing a bomb to be placed on an aircraft.
Reyat has been jointly charged with Ripudaman Singh Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri.
Malik and Bagri face a second count of first degree murder in relation to the explosion at the New Tokyo International Airport in 1985.
Bagri is also charged with the 1988 attempted murder of Indo-Canadian Times publisher Tara Singh Hayer.
Bagri and Malik were arrested and charged in October, 2000 and have been in custody since then.
Reyat will appear in the BC Supreme Court on Thursday.
