A Paris-bound Air-India flight with 428 passengers on board on Friday made an emergency landing an hour after it took off from the city's international airport, officials said.

The Mumbai-Paris-Newark flight took off from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 0900 IST but had to be recalled after a hydraulic leak was detected, an Air-India spokesman told PTI.

The aircraft made a safe landing around 1130 IST.

The aircraft had to dump the fuel before the emergency landing, which is the laid down procedure in such cases, the spokesman said.

"Engineers at Air-India's technical base in Mumbai are inspecting the aircraft and we expect to resume its flight to Paris in about 4-5 hours," the spokesman said.

All the passengers are safe, the spokesman said.
