More than 65 percent of the western Indian state of Gujarat was flooded in June and July 2005, killing about 213 people and affecting 200 million people.

The army and navy were deployed to rescue people and distribute relief material across the state.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi called the floods a 'tsunami from the skies.'
